Museum
There are almost 1,200 museums in the Netherlands, the most famous of which are the Rijksmuseum and the Vincent van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterloo, the Kunsthal in Rotterdam and the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague. Ancient buildings and monuments are a great attraction to many visitors. The great churches in the cities, some centuries old, are well worth a visit.
Regular visitors would benefit from an annual Museum Card (MJK - museumjaarkaart) with which you can visit hundreds of museums in the Netherlands FREE. It's available from most museums and also online at Holland Museums, and Museum.nl . Information on exhibits, opening hours and locations is also available at these sites. In order to encourage younger people to take an interest in culture, the Cultureel Jongeren Paspoort (CJP - Cultural Youth Pass) has been introduced. It costs €12.50 and can be purchased at most Tourist Information Centres (The VVV in Holland). The Youth Pass offers considerable reductions for many of the events listed below. |
